Made with real wood
Each map is made from two layers of Baltic birch,
hand sanded and assembled with care.
Accurate scale models of cityscapes and other geographic features. Most maps are between 1:65k to 1:85k cartographic scale.
Two overlapping wood pieces give depth to each map, with land features sitting "above" water.
Assembled with care, each map's finishing touches are given individual craftsmanship.
Hole and string hanging method allows for easy map hanging anywhere.
What are the maps made out of?
Each map is made from two boards of Baltic birch wood.
What are the blue and green colors?
Parts of the map that represent water features (ocean, sea, lake, river, pond, etc.) are dyed with a blue ink. Parts that represent "greenspace" (parks, forests, meadows, etc.) or areas of cultural interest (museum grounds, national malls, promenades, esplanades, etc.) are dyed with a green ink.
What are the dimensions of the maps?
The maps are:
19.5 inches (49.5 cm) ↑
11.5 inches (29.2 cm) →
and 0.375 (0.95 cm) inches thick.
Maps can weigh between 1.75 lbs (800 g) to 2 lbs (900 g)
Where are the maps made?
The maps are made and shipped from our workshop in Philadelphia, USA.
How long will it take to get my map?
Short answer: 4-7 days
Long answer: Maps are made to order, meaning we do not keep a stock. Each map is created just for you. After placing your order, your map will be produced within 2-4 days. Adding this time plus your chosen shipping option will give you an idea of how long it will take. For example, a map shipped to Seattle, WA from our workshop in Philadelphia, PA with the free shipping option (USPS Priority Mail, 2-3 days) will take about 4-7 days from order placement to map in hand. Destinations in Alaska, Hawaii, and non-US destinations will take a bit longer however.
How much is shipping? Do you ship to outside the US?
Priority Mail via USPS (2-3 days) is always free to destinations within the United States. Faster shipping options are available for an additional cost.
We do ship to outside the US, however additional shipping costs will apply.
Can the maps be hung?
Yes, the maps are light enough to be hung via the hole and string method as shown in the pics, which are also included in your order.
This map is missing something, or this area doesn't appear to be right.
While we make every attempt to keep our maps as accurate as possible, some compromises must be made. Due to the limitations of lasers and the fragility of thin wood, it is not always possible to keep every geographic feature perfectly represented. Simplifications are made to some maps that would result in easily breakable or fragile pieces. For example, many of the piers in Lower Manhattan, NYC along the Hudson River are removed, otherwise this would result in numerous tiny pieces of wood that would certainly break off at some point in the assembly or shipping process.
Will my map be as shown in the pics?
For the most part, yes, your map will look just like the pictures.
But because each map is made by hand, and because each piece of wood is unique, you can expect small variations. We make every effort possible to select only the highest quality wood, though your map may contain small wood knots or streaks. You may also notice a small amount of brown discoloration on parts of your map. This is charring caused when the laser cuts the wood. Our sanding process removes the majority of the charring, however your map may still contain some.
